Brief overview of the project
There are numerous technologies available for outfitting cars, such as radar detectors and jammers, as well as mobile apps like Waze for driver alerts. While some of these solutions are legal, others are not. However, they all share one unbeatable opponent: Pegasus, the traffic monitoring helicopter operated by Spain's Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT). Project Atenea taps into real-time ADS-B receiver databases to accurately locate any aircraft deployed by the Spanish Ministry of Traffic. This information is public and lawful; it simply hadn't been utilized in this manner before. Atenea can alert drivers to the nearby presence of the helicopter, providing a real-time representation of its flight path and offering drivers peace of mind.
